Coteau (pronounced “Kuto”) Reclaimed is driven by a vision for capturing a piece of history in salvaged barn wood. By repurposing these materials for modern uses, Coteau Reclaimed is able to provide quality barn wood furniture and fixtures that still pay homage to the character found within the wood grain.

Sustainability further drives the Coteau Reclaimed team to do this kind of work. Many buildings offer materials that have much more to give, but these buildings are often demolished and burned without a second thought to reclamation. In the eyes of the Coteau Reclaimed team, the work of reclamation takes valuable barn wood and makes products for people who will enjoy them for years to come.

Not All Barn Wood is Created Equal

Quality, antique barn wood is vanishing in many ways. According to company owner Phillip Jarman, wood from structures built in the 1950s offer heritage and an authentic feel. Shortly after this period of time, barns were constructed using manufactured materials, which doesn’t have the natural character and quality found in raw wood.

Though Coteau Reclaimed salvages barn wood from many structures, the most coveted types of wood are chestnut, walnut, hickory, or old-growth pine. These particular woods are ideal when creating new pieces for homes that will add value, beauty, and personality.

About the Owner

Born and raised on a family farm, Coteau Reclaimed owner and founder, Phillip Jarman has always been surrounded by agricultural pursuits. From childhood, Phillip worked with his dad on various projects related to building and demolition. This background eventually led Phillip to begin a partnership and company with his brother, carrying out a contracting business. Throughout all of his projects, Phillip’s affinity for reclamation and reuse of castoff materials stayed strong.
